Young gun teenager Chad Schofield had a sterling run AT group 1 boilover at Moonee Valley today as Shamus Award became the first maiden to win the Group 1 $3 million Cox Plate in a stunning finish.

The weight at just 49.5kg, Shamus Award beat rivals “Happy Trails” and “Fiorente” in a race to the finish of the weight-for age classic. They were a few disappointment’s for some with "A Dundeel" and one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune didn’t manage to strike any glory. Last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Fiorente held on for third place for this year’s Cup after taking the race up to Shamus Award.
Puissance De Lune, once a $5.50 an the punters gamble and Melbourne Cup favourite, has blown to $19 for the race that stops a nation.
