Nominations for the 2009 BMW Caulfield Cup, Tatts Cox Plate and Emirates Melbourne Cup are closed now with Godolphin’s line-up headed by Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m) winner Eastern Anthem.

“There’s no doubt All The Good’s win in last year’s Caulfield Cup has made Godolphin even more determined to come back and, in particular, win that elusive Melbourne Cup. This determination is indicated in the quality of their entries,” said Racing Victoria’s General Manager of Racing Operations Leigh Jordon.

Overall, 43 international horses have been entered for the Spring Racing Carnival’s ‘big three’, compared to 66 last year. There are 18 Caulfield Cup nominations, 11 in the Cox Plate and 39 in the Melbourne Cup.

In 2008, a total of nine international horses travelled to Melbourne with seven contesting the Melbourne Cup. Cups King Bart Cummings has 11 Cups nominations, up from 10 last year, headed by reigning Melbourne Cup hero Viewed.

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings has three horses entered in the Caulfield Cup and the draw has favoured all. Allez Wonder, who won the Toorak Handicap last week, drew alongside stablemate Roman Emperor in barriers six and five. Cummings other runner, last year’s Melbourne Cup victor Viewed drew gate 15.

Entries for the Cox Plate have risen from 172 last year to 196.
